These pages contain the studies I have done on the Iron Book. The book covers many of the histories of Dunateen and the Hidden Cities. As the title sugests, the book is actually bound in an iron casing, which has contributed to its longevity. Any unmarked citings come from the Iron Book, though I will cite numerous other references, both contemparary and antique.

I found an interesting footnote in the Iron Book. On page 167 the book speaks of the Aldarn infulence on Dunateen military tactics, particualrly in their use of cavalry. The ineresting thing, though, is the small note added on the bottom of the page, clearly entered at another time. The author of this short note, who remains anonymous, suggests that this influence was the first step towards the current brooding unrest between the two Cities. He does not back up his suggestion, but I plan to look into the idea further to see if their is any merit to it.

The construction of Dunateen occured in three phases, as gathered from various sources, including Middle Lands by Coreen Milar and The Ends of the Shadowed Days by Karil Dob, both found only in fragments. The first stage ended when constroction of the Rock was completed, around 424 Days of Shadows(Dos). The second stage, which included buildings leading to the outer court was completed in 427. The outer court, as the third stage, was finished in 429, followed shortly after by a dedication ceremony. It was another fifteen years or so before all of inner city was fleshed out, but there was no important construction projects in the years following 429.

I have been researching from the Iron Book for many years, and figured it was time to place some of my musings online. Most of the information here assumes you understand the background of the Hidden Cities, so those with a lesser understanding may find them selves confused. I will attempt to discern between lesser known facts and the common ones, but may fail to do so. I apologize for any confusion my ommision of facts brings, and I will do my best to rectify such problems on later posts. E-mail any questions to theironbook @ hotmail.com. Enjoy and learn.
